Honor’s Ghost

“We start some stories, close others.... and are in the middle of others we cannot discern” - David Whyte

Honor’s Ghost explores the repetition of patterns of emotional dynamics over family generations, especially happiness and cruelty. It has its roots in my childhood, when my grandmother would enthral me with her own childhood stories of her parents Annie and Bill. The discovery of the dramatic secret of their graves led me to speculate on what had happened, and how it might impact Honor, their imaginary great-grandchild.

Honor’s Spirit

"What is life? An illusion, a shadow, a story,

And the greatest good is little enough:

For all life is a dream, and dreams themselves

Are only dreams." - Pedro Calderon de la Barca, Life is a Dream

Honor’s Spirit is set in the year 2060, and is a work of speculative fiction. Honor’s great-grandaughter, Isabelle, a neuro-scientist, is seeking a definitive answer to the ultimate question: how can people be happy? The possibility of a miracle drug leads her to question her endeavours, and her fascination with her ancestor, Honor, leads her on a voyage of self discovery.
